First time posting and first time owning ski. I bought it from someone local, they said that it would run for five minutes and then shut off. I got it running, but when it fires off it smokes out the whole block. Found that the accelerator pump diaphragm was stuck, and got it working. I also found what I believe to be the a lever for the oil pump not hooked up. Looking to make heads or tails of something I might be over looking, or something that I might not be thinking of

First, if there is an exhaust leak in the hull you need to find and fix that first.

With the cable off the oil pump it is designed to go full open and let a lot of oil into the engine to protect itself from running without oil. You need to fix the cable and adjust the pimp arm.

I see, there is no visible exhaust leaking in the hull at this time. It makes sense that it would be over oiling itself without that leg hooked up causing the excessive smoke. Still don't know why the flush has oil in it

The 99 gti with the 717 is the one I am working on. By flush I mean when you hook up the water hose to the rear of the ski to purge out salt water. When flushing the cooling system there is oil in the water that pours out by the venturi

The 99' GTX does not have a 717.

If you are getting oil pouring out the exhaust you have either an bad rotary valve oil leak, crank leak of flooding of fuel.

As I have specified before I have no problems with the ski's exhaust system. I have oil coming out of the pick up tube when it is being flushed

What pick up tube are you talking about? Guess we are a little confused.

If you are talking about the jet pump water inlet that dumps water when flushing, there is really no way to get oil into that system unless the exhaust is just completely full of oil and fuel but that should blow out pretty quick. The hose outlet you are speaking about connects to the cylinders and head which should not be able to get oil into them unless you had a very badly blown head gasket but at that point it wouldn't even run.

A head gasket would make sense. The oil that is in the water Is grey from sitting in water. Plus the ski will run fine until I turn the water on to flush the system. That's usually when it shuts off, rather abruptly too

Your 720 engine just has o-rings on the head so should be easy to pull it and check.
