hello newbie here. i have a 98 xpl for about 6 years now..been sitting for 2 years. last time i rode it sat over night in a marina and took in alot of water..i just made it to the launch ramp..dont know what it is..but the previous season i had a guy winterize it and i told him to grease the fitting that you see when you open up the back latch where the battery goes..not sure if he might have messed something up.didnt take in alot of water that day when i was riding..just over night it took in a dump load. any ideas what i can look for or how i can find where the water is coming in from? and how can i tell if my bildge pump is working? i just dont wanna put this thing back in the water and have it sink..i was luckily right in the marina when i found it taking water..so i dont wanna be out on the lake ..ya get what im saying? any help would be appreciated..but she started up like a champ this year..alright thanks for any help..

Check the o-rings on your drain plugs. If they have even one crack in them they will slowly take on water when they sit.

you can replace that o-ring, with o-ring at Ace....#10, in the plumbing section.

Have ski on trailer, fill up the engine bay just enuf, so it triggers the sensor on bilge, so you'll need to have the battery o"on". If dont "kick-in", then sensor aint work'n.

Inspect the carbon seal area (underneath the grey shield) think on your model, its at back of ski, the carbon could be cracked.

check the boot for tears as well. it is easy to tell if it is working, with water in the hull half way up the pump, it will either pump out the water or it will not if it does not pump it is no good, but first make sure you have power going to the pump.

Speaking of boots drying out and cracking. Is there something we can use to slow this down. I noticed some slight cracks starting to appear on my drive boot.

Along with what everyone has said, next to the carbon ring, is a metal ring that the carbon ring rides against to seal the drive shaft, inside the metal ring are 2 orings! They can crack an have water some in there too.
Also, you'll have to just put your key on the post to get the bilge pump to work. And if it doesn't click on, check the fuse on the MPEM. Its the 3amp. Just replaced mine.
I took my drain plugs out of my 01 XP in the middle of the lake to check my blige pump, and NO water came in my hull. I had to do my test when I got home with the hose.
I would think it the carbon ring, accordian boot, or oring in the metal ring.
Take a hose, or have a trusting friend, and hose the drive shaft and look inside the hull for water leaking. Might lead to somewhere faster.
As far as the grease fitting, its for the mid carrier bearing, good to grease.

I would imagine that some silicone spray might help.. We use it on door seals in cars all the time to keep them nice and fresh.

I dont know if this has been mentioned or not, but have you checked where the pump goes on to the hull and the lines go through into the engine compartment?

Sorry if this seems to be highjacking the thread. That is not my intention, but I thought it would be good to add this to the discussion since there seems to be a lot of post about water leaking into the hull. Will the seadoo lube or WD-40 work well to preserve boots and seals, etc.?

I spray stuff pretty frequently with the XPS spray. I love it. You don't need alot, just a light coat. The water eventually washes it off. I don't really know how it would help the boot, it never moves, or has pressure on and off it. But 2 seconds worth of coating and peace of mind knowing your doing something is better than nothing and later wondering, could I have prolonged it?
