long read

heres the story, i was launching my seadoo and my brother hops out of the truck and says he will get it ready, by doing this i assume he puts in the plugs. well he didnt. so i was out driving around as it slowly filled. then i brought it around to a marina where we keep out boat and it was sitting there for a bit until my brother took it out. next thing u know hes being towed in and he said its like half full with water. so we dragged it up onto the dock and emptied and found out the 15 amp battery fuse was blown. so i changed it and went back out and right when i was about to get planeing (around 5-6 grand) it died, same thing fuse blew. so we put another one in, and i idled the damn thing to the launch ramp. we let it dry out and replaced the fuse....again. so i re launch it the next day after we thought it dried out. it ran great and i was just crusiing and i was like 4 km away from the marina and boom dies, same damn thing....that was probably after 15-20 mins of riding. why does this fuse keep blowing? there was a normal amount of water in the hull when i took it out, maybe like a litre or 2. something is obviously drawing to much power. i took out the trim motor because it was pretty badly corroded and cleaned it up/oiled it.

what could be wrong? im missing tons of riding time because of this and its so nice out!

It would help to know what kind of Seadoo you have. The trim motor works off a 7.5 amp fuse, so that shouldn't be your problem. Also, you shouldn't have any water in the hull while riding. That could be the problem. I'll look at your wiring diagram and we'll try to figure something out but I need to know what seadoo you have.

i have a 1998 XP LTD.

If the MPEM got wet, then its possible that it's blowing the fuse. Double check you cable positive cable coming out of the battery for cuts. Also open the rear electrical box and make sure no water has got in there, if thats still wet, it will blow.

alright thanks:hurray:

i have eliminated that it isnt the VTS or pump, it must be the stator. because if i fire it up out of water it reaches like 4000 rpm then blows

SYMPTOM: DISCHARGED OR WEAK BATTERY
CAUSE REMEDY
1. Battery posts and/or
cable terminal
oxidized.
Clean and coat with
dielectric grease.
2. Loose or bad
connections.
Check wiring and
connector cleanliness,
damaged or short circuit.
3. Faulty battery
(sulfated, doesn’t
keep a full charge,
damaged casing,
loose post).
Replace.
4. 15 amp fuse(s) burnt
or faulty rectifier.
First check fuse.
If it is in good condition,
check rectifier/regulator.
5. Faulty battery
charging coil
(or stator).
Replace.

Magneto....

I'd go with the rectifier but for one reason I think it's something else. The rectifier would stop charging the battery if it went bad, not blow the fuse. The fuse is the battery fuse, blown because the magneto is probably grounded out.

This is the conclusion I came to because you said it practically sunk. You may still have water inside the mag........

If you can, put a fuse in it, start the motor and see how many volts DC are going to your battery. You should have about 14 to 14.5.

Then, you'll need to pull the magneto cover to see if there is standing water in it. This is the most likely reason the fuse is blowing. If it's not to late, you can spray it down with WD-40 and let it dry out. Then, inspect the wiring for bad connections or broken wires..........put it back together.

I think you'll be good to go then. Normally, the mag gets wet, it'll pop that 15 amp fuse. But rarely do they go bad. Don't bet me wrong, the stator can break a wire in the windings and go bad, but it's rare.
