hey guys...having a difficult time trying to figure this out...at full throttle my ski starts to surge up and down....revs going in and out, speeding up and slowing down...so forth and so on....took it to the local shop and had the guys take a look at it and he said that carbs needed to be rebuilt and cleaned...YaY for me...last weekend get it on the water and after a hour or so, it started doing it again...what do you guys suggest I look at now...

Also when it was in the shop, mechanic said the compression was fine but was different in each cylinder AND has alot of noise that he believes is bearing noise...So part 2 of the question, would it be worth rebuilding the motor OR start looking for something new...'00 XP and '00 Waverunner for a decent price.

Thanks for any help!!

If you only rebuilt the carbs and didn't change the fuel lines you will need to clean the carbs again and this time change the grey fuel lines to black fuel injector type hose.

ahh...i thought it might be that the lines have a small crack or so in them and are collapsing...

and timmy...sorry for sounding like an newb..but please explain?

bad rectifier symptom...

The rectifier/regulator box does two things. It recieves AC voltage generated by the stator coils through the yellow wires. It then converts that AC power to DC power using the rectifier portion. The red wire sends back to the battery, regulated DC voltage to keep your battery charged while riding the ski.
When the rectifier quits working, that red wire is sending AC voltage to the DC battery. Your ignition runs off DC power as it is a DC CDI ignition. When AC is sent, it interferes with the DC CDI. If you can picture the static your car radio has when under high power lines you can understand how the AC effects the ignition.

A magneto produces very little voltage at lower rpm and more voltage at higher rpm. That is why the motor will start and run decent at lower rpm, but run very ragged at higher rpm when the rectifier is shot...

ahh that makes a hella alot of sense....hmm gotta find my hose attachment now...or at least make/get another one

if that takes care of the surge then its time to look at the extra noise and see if it really is the bearings..

Rectifier and gray fuel lines

The possibility of the rectifier being shot is there. But normally, due to the fact that you no longer have 14 volts DC current charging the battery, it will usually go dead after a hour or so of run time. Depending on how strong the battery is.......

The fuel lines. If you still have the gray lines on, they need to be replaced. You can cut a piece and take it with you to the auto parts store and tell then ou need fuel line in this size.........and how ever many feet. You do not have to buy the expensive fuel injector gas line............
