My 98 sportster was running great all weekend, though I was a little surprised the oil wasn't really running out. We probably ran about 12-15 hours without the oil in the tank visibly moving. I thought this was odd when we filled it up with gas but took it out and anchored and swam for a while. When we got back on it started right up but had no speed to it. It was idling really loudly and vibrating a lot. It got very hot and when the alarm went off I killed the engine. We were in luck because some friends could tow us back, but I am very worried about it. Does this sound like a blown engine?

Thanks for your help.

I can't believe the you ran the boat for that long without using any oil. Here is how you can judge it I ran mine for aabout 2-3 hours and went through 12 gallons of gas. My oil went down about 1/4" inch in that tank. Was going 1/2-3/4 throttle. I have the same boat so the oil usage should be the same. Use tape and mark the tank to verify. you sure the other owner didn't convert it to pre-mix? I see you have 2 posts so I am assuming you just bought the boat. Pump like 10 gallons out of the boat if it's full and add some oil to get enough to run it on premix and check over you oil system. Pressure test the test the engines to see if you are still good. Your engines could stillbe ok.
