just removed the old motor to replace with the sbt, and upon inspecting the rotary valve I noticed it had a little notch on the edge, then when I looked at the rotary valve cover I saw that it was scored. Do I need to be concerned about this? the air intake is fine, and I've looked at other posts on this forum regarding scored valve covers, and mine doesn't seem too much worse than others. do I need to replace the rotary valve cover? and can I just hammer out the notch on the edge of the rotary valve?

It's rough.... but if the cover is still flat, and it's in spec (for clearance) it will be fine.

i'm not sure if I follow what you mean, you mean is the section that's gauged Flat? and not warped?, and by clearance you mean from the rotary valve to the cover?

The valve has a tendency of scooping out the section around the openings. Put a straight edge on it... and you will see what I mean.

Do you know the correct part number for that cover?

Any of the 800 carb manifolds will work. (They were basically all the same)
