First off, I'm new to the site, but it seems like there is a ton of good information on here and I look forward to reading up. Thanks in advance for the help !
The issue I'm having is on a 98 speedster with the twin 800's. I just bought the boat and I'm trying to sort the bugs out. The boat runs, and runs pretty well (carbs need a cleaning). Problem I'm having is none of the gauges seem to work. They all have power and ground to them (checked via tests in factory manual). But the tach's never move from 0, the fuel gauge reads empty, and the low oil light is on. I believe the fuel gauge may be a sender issue, as if you short the sender wires together. The gauge reads full. My real concern is the tach's, I've ohmed the wires from gauge to mpem connector and found a pile of bad connections which I repaired (someone cut the wires while cutting a hole to install a speaker and used butt connectors in the hull and it rotted) but still can't seem to get the tach to work. While engines are running in seeing ~1.6v on the tach signal wire, which according to the service manual should be about 4-6 volts. I know the mpem is a possibility, but everyone I've talked to seems to say that it usually will kill spark when the mpem dies ? So I guess my real question is where does the mpem get its tach signal ? And any testing I can do before I spend huge $ on a used mpem ? Thanks in advance ! PLEASE HELP
