98 GTX LTD trying to get it to start for the first time

So the ski is all back together with all new hoses, filters, check valves, some other parts, and rebuilt carbs plus new wiring. I was able to get it started...after some trial and error. But now that it cranks, it starts to rev high automatically.....almost like its a run away. I rebuilt the carbs so I am wondering if I should look at my idle screw and see if it is to high.

I'm also getting a little backfire.....its done it twice now.

Any other idea why it would rev high?

Idle screw. Slight slack in throttle cable. Then check oil pump adjustment
carb base gaskets new and in place correctly.

Yeah like he said, I thought I had a little slack in my throttle cable after replacing the cable and carbs.
It was just a little tight and I backed the idle screw all the way out so it’s not even a factor. Adjusted the cable to get a little slack, made sure to line up the marks on the oil pump and adjusted it till it was lined up.
Working great now.

Mine ran away after reinstall because I had the throttle cable routed wrong.
