Replacing the coil and spark plug wires. Does it matter which wire goes to which cylinder? From what I have read just keep them short as possible.

When I replaced the coils on one I did recently I made sure the wires went to the correct plug as in... how I removed them. I'm not sure if the 951 fires both plugs at the same time and I don't like doing things twice. :) Good Luck !

Yeah, both my wires were chewed up and not connected so I have no reference. With what was left it looks like the bottom wire (on coil) goes to the closest spark plug and the top one goes to the farther one.

Anybody out there know for sure which way or if it matters?

The 951's have 2 coils and thus fire separately,,,unlike the 800's etc,,so order matters,,,I believe,,,
There is only one coil. well a least one physical package, it could be two coils separated internally

I bought a project/basket case 98 gtx limited that I'm working on. Before I pulled the motor I tried both wires on both cylinders to see if it changed anything. It didn't seem to matter which wire was on what cylinder. I'll have the same issue as soon as I put the motor back in so hopefully someone can say for sure one way or the other.

PS. I ordered a new coil and the wires are way to short. Did you buy a new coil ? If which one ?

On my 98 the coil wire on top of coil. Wire closest to the rear electrical box cover goes to the PTO cylinder.

With a single coil it does not matter which wire goes where. Single coil fires both plugs on every stroke.

I ordered mine off of Ebay..I just searched by part number. The wires are a good length. I haven't cranked mine up yet though, got to install carbs still.

I found the OEM part number and searched eBay. Found a listing that said it fit for 20 bucks. when I received it the wires are way to short. They were approx 20 inches and my old wires are 34 inches long. I ordered another one off Amazon from Bay Area Power sports for 50 bucks that said it would fit a GTX limited. It should arrive tomorrow so hopefully that one will the correct one

Any leads on aftermarket parts to circumvent purchasing cheap Chinese knock-off crap, use parts or hinky workarounds? Is there an MSD distributor set that i dont know about?
