I Just Bought This Jet Ski. When I First Bought It And Took It To The Lake It Was Running On One Cylinder. This Great Forum Helped Me Out Very Much By Giving Me Excellent Info On How To Replace The Fuel Lines And Clean Out The Carbs. One Of The Internal Filters Was Completely Clogged Up. I Fixed That And I Cleaned The Rave Valves And Took It Back To The Lake. I Checked Compression And It Is 140 Psi. It Is Running Alot Better But Not Great. The Engine Is Turning 5700 Rpms And It Will Run About 53 Mph. I Thought It Should Turn Close To 7500 Rpms. I Am Not Sure Where To Go Next. Any Information Would Be Great.

Welcome ACERUPE to seadooforum.com.

Last couple of checks - fuel tank check valves (vent) are working okay?
Fuel selector valve - RPMs change when running in Reserve?
Carbs low and high speed adjusters set correctly?

If fuel has been straightened out, now we need to verify spark. Are you sure you are firing on both cylinders?.....quick test, ground one plug wire to the engine bracket and start. Then put the plug wire back on and ground the other wire and start. If it runs on one and not the other, you aren't getting spark there.

I am having the exact same issue. I have cleaned the carb filters, main fuel filter, replaced the grey lines, and changed plugs. Tonight, I wasn't able to get past 5800 RPMs. Also cleaned the RAVE valves and set the red knobs flush with the top. Any ideas???

Syncronize?........

Are you sure your carbs are syncronized? This is very important to reach max RPM. You can normally tell this, by reading the plugs.

When your at WOT, run for about 5 or 10 minutes. Kill the engine without going to idle. Read the plugs right then. If one plug looks rich and one plug looks clean, then your having a syncro problem.

Ok. We may be on to something. I just checked my plugs and the rear was a bit more rich than the front.

The front RAVE valve was also malfunctioning. When I pulled the black cover off, I found the large spring was wedged to the side. I had the red screw set flush with the top. Never had this issue before.

How do you synchronize the carbs? I'll search the forum too.

Thanks seadoosnipe!

To sync the carbs, check that they close the butterfly valve (throttle plate)the same between the two carbs. They should be in exactly the same position with each other as you move the front lever......make sure the chokes are also in the same position (you'll have to make sure the choke is released to see the throttle plates.

Adjust the ball/socket jointed coupler accordingly.

Well, I checked the gap on my plugs (off a tiny bit) and fixed the RAVE value issue. I managed to get 6000 RPM, but that was it (and didn't hold too long). I also have a bit of sluggish performance when I try to take off from idle. I have to "milk" it along before it takes off. I'd like to think it was the carb filters, but I just cleaned them ten days ago.

Could they be dirty again or is the best guess still sync on the carbs?

Thanks!!

Try setting the fuel selector valve to Reserve and see if it runns differently than on On.

I didn't see in you previous posts if you checked or replace the valve.

I tried running with the valve in the reserve position. No difference. I actually tried changing between the open and reserve two separate times. I have NOT replaced the valve, but I did take it off when I cleaned the carbs.

The only grey lines I have not replaced are the two vent lines. No fuel goes through these lines and it appears they are clear, so I don't think they are an issue. I'm at a loss right now.

How many RPMs should I be able to pull?

6500-7000 RPMs max if I recall based on the rev limiter.

Replacing vent hose is not critical (just looks nicer).

Still trying to fix this problem. I pulled my RAVEs tonight and noticed one more carbonized than the other. Could this support a carb-synch issue? I thought maybe this would be the same as the difference in plugs noted above???

Also, is it possible to get the carbs off or synch without removing the pipe?

Thanks!

lake...with carbon more than normal built up, possible, that its get'n hung up, or not opening all the way,..carbs in sync, if you can get filter/arrestor off, then shine light down in, and have whomever burp the throttle, see if the butterflies open same, or the gap when closed, are the same, then yah, dont need to move the pipe..
