98 Challenger 1800 Ignition Questions

Hello everyone. I just bought this 98 challenger 1800 from a buddy, and only one engine will turn over. I started troubleshooting the ignition system and found that the starter solenoid is definitely shot. The engine will turn over if I jump the wires for the starter. I also believe the ignition coil is bad. The service manual says the secondary winding should have a resistance of 8.4 - 15.6 k Ohm's. The coil tests @ 20.3 k Ohm's, so I am assuming it is shot also. I am going to replace both of them. I have tested all 4 wires coming into the high voltage box and the voltage reading on all was normal.

I wanted to ask if there is anything else I need to check/replace before I install the new coil and solenoid. I would hate for something else to be bad and cause the new components to short out.

I'd like to thank everyone involved with this forum from the moderators to one time posters for all the information being shared here. I'll be very excited to get this boat up and running.

when you pull the mag cover, you'll probably see the culprit. So, remove it, and check b4 buy'n the coil, see if the coil is boke off the bracket, or has metal shavings all around it.
