I just got a 98 bombardier gtx limited that has been sitting for a few years. I know that the previous owner had just had the engine rebuilt before it sat up. It gets spark, has good compression, and gets fuel to the carbs but wont start. I poured some fuel into the cylinders and it cranked right up. I was wondering if anyone can tell me any common causes before I pulled the carbs to rebuild them!

Welcome to the forum heineken24-7.Glad you got the problem solved. Let us know if we can help in the future.

Because I have some bad news for you. You really should replace those fuel lines. Go black. As you run this machine, the gray lines are disintegrating into the gas, and clogging the fuel system.

If you don't replace them, asap, then you will have a carb filter plug up, and then if only one of them does it, you will force a lean condition on the plugged side, and do a little damage to one piston. (more, or less) before both carb filters plug up and shut you down to idle, or a little above. Then, you will be wondering what is wrong. And then you will become a complete believer!

I honestly recommend that you CHANGE those fuel lines ASAP, and clean both carb filters (I assume it has 2 carbs).

Then you will be ok. If you delay, you will not help things. I would NOT let it sit all winter with the bad hoses. They will have a nice load of gunk for the spring run!

Just do a search on GRAY FUEL LINES, and you will see.

Just not worth it. I was not a believer, when folks on this forum told me. The gray lines were so nicely tucked in, and looked like GOOD GRADE MARINE LINES. Nopie!

After taking it apart, and FINDING the scum in the lines, and carbs, I am now a convert!

It is better to replace, before the lean run from across the lake, all the way to the truck.

Lean condition for 2 strokers is bad for them. That is what I am trying to get you to avoid.

Thanks, I really appretiate that info. I would hate to take it out on the water and wind up having more problems. Also, like I said before this bike has been sitting for quite a while, and my hull numbers are a little faded. Is there another number anywhere else on the ski? I just want to make sure all my paper work is correct. I have had mis-types on registrations in the past.

There is some kind of hull num on mine, on the rear, stamped with dots in some sort of plate...

I have never paid much attention to it.

Cannot comment on that item.

But, the gray lines will hurt your engine, by varying degrees. On a long hard WOT, with one carb lean, it can hurt one jug.

You mean seadoo PWC??? The Hull Numbers should be either on the rear of the hull, or look under the MPEM,( Multi Purpose Electronic Module). Seadoo usually hides them under there too.
