97 xp will crank and wont crank at times

need help dont know what to do ive put a new battery new starter relay and all it does is it acts like it wants to turnover but some times it will and runs fine it will also beep loud when u put the key on and some times u cant hear it or want beep at all help

Clean off the cap and post with soapy water and give it a shot.

To add to nswillin, it might be a bad beeper. Put your hand on it to see if you feel it clicking. You could get a cheap replacement at radio shack or go to our "Parts" link to get the real thing.

Ive clean the post and cap and it still does it

its turn'n over, but not firing? or, sometimes it turns over, sometimes it doesn't turn?
If that the case, maybe bad starter, or bad cables to it...

most likely a corroded wire connection. Carefully inspect the pins in connectors at the MPEM. BRP made a huge mistake when they located the MPEM right at the front of the hull. The MPEM's in the later xp's were relocated to prevent water intrusion.
