I have been battling issues with intermittnet spark for the whole summer. The engine will start and run for 2-3 seconds then shut off like some one turns the key off. Then I can count to 10 and start the engine back up for 2-3 seconds then it will shut off. I got lucky one day and it stayed running, so I took it out on the lake and rode it for 3 hrs no problems started and shutoff fine. Then I went to use it on the weekend and the spark issues have come back. I have repalced just about everything on this seadoo and about to give up. I have replaced these parts over the last year. The stator, the igntion coil the pick-up coil, the MPEM. I have also cheaned the connections at these locatons 4 times. I replaced the pins in the connector at the engine. If there is any input out there to help I would appreciate it. I really don't want to buy another MPEM!!

Dess post........

Replace the DESS post. The post is magnetic and over time, will lose it's ability to hold onto and communicate with the lanyard cap.

I think there's about a 99.999% chance thats your problem. My boat (787) did the same thing last year. Worked on it and worked on it. Then, I figured there was nothing else but the post. It hasn't cut off since....

errrrr......

man i am almost the same issue. mine (97 gsx) will idle just fine but when u throttle hard it will die unless you hold the key in or hold the start/stop button down. when you hold the key in place it runs great. the second that key moves or vibrates a little the boat will die. you can unplug it and plug it back in and 2 beeps and away u go for about a second. i am going to replace my post and see if that will fix it as well.

It might be the lanyard cap is bad...it has to mate to the post. The lanyard cap has a ROM,(Read Only Memory) chip in it. If you replace it you will have to get it reprogramed at the seadoo dealer.

I changed the MPEM with a friends that has the same PWC. My pwc ran fine then. I installed my mpem (bad) into his pwc and it had the same problem that mine was having no spark or spark for 3 sec then shutdown. I'm going to assum that my mpem is bad. His mpem verified that all the wiring is good and everything else.
