97 xp ground wire

I just bought this machine not too long ago and I have been looking through the wiring. Someone put a wire from the coil to the starter. I guess they are trying to ground it out but I can't figure what was bad to make them add that wire.

There is no reason to have a wire from the coil to the starter. Check the ground wire from the coil and see if the original one is grounded properly.
