HI

The drivesaft hose appears to be loose on the front side.

With the machine not running. When I grab the hose I am able to wiggle it up and down with some play. The play is on the front side.

With the engine on, the hose rattles on the shaft. If I hold the hose in place it stops rattling.

Both clamps are tight.

I am not sure if I need a new carbon ring? Or if that kind of play is normal.

Thanks,
Chris

think ur talk'n bout the "accordian" boot, if loose, loos'n up back clamp, and push boot toward ski, much as yuo can, then re-tighten clamp. if notice anything wrong with carbon-seal, need to replace it...

looks like the diameter of the carbon ring is much bigger then the shaft. Is that normal or is it supposed to be a snug fit on the shaft?

That's normal.
You might have to go ahead and replace the carbon ring if it's vibrating. If you do, replace the protection hose as well.

Your setup is different. I hope you greased the zerk on the PTO flywheel and not the carbon ring. The carbon ring must be dry. His model has no grease fitting on the PTO flywheel but it does have a bearing housing just in front of the carbon ring that takes grease.
