97 xp carburetor jet problem

I just rebuilt the carburetors on a 97 xp with the 787 engine. I have never seen this jet ski run, I bought it with the contention that it has been sitting several years. My question is this, I have a Seloc repair manual and it says that the high speed jet is longer than the low speed jet. But I saw where someone on this forum says that the jet with the pin through it is the low speed jet. Well on these carburetors the one with the pin through it is the longer jet. Did someone change the jets out on these carbs or is the book wrong? Also the one without the pin through it does not have the cap on it so someone has been messing with the carbs before. Thanks for any help

Adjustment screws

The adjustment needle (not a jet) with the pin going thru it is the low speed needle. They never had a cap on them from the factory. Only the high speed adjustment screw did.

neither jet has a cap. should I just screw the high speed jet all the way down? i have the low speed (on mine it is on the bottom of the carbs on the linkage side) 1 and a half out

Main jet?....

Yes, the main jet (high speed bypass) should be snug. This is really not a jet, it's a bypass around the main jet. Do not over tighten, just till you feel it hit bottom.

The cap covers the main jet because it's suppose to be set at 0, but if you change to high performance flame arrestors, you might crack it open just a tad to get more fuel to the engine, since it's obvious you'll be sucking in more air.

You said you never heard this thing run. Does it have spark? Do you hear 2 beeps when you put the lanyard cap on? Have you checked the compression?
