Hello, I have a 97 seadoo xp and it is draining batteries. I measured the resistance between the battery cables and had a resistance of about 1.7M ohms. First i thought it was the regulator, so i unplugged the regulator and no change. Next i thought it was the stator, but when i unplugged the regulator that disconnected the three yellow stator wires. Then i unplugged the connector from the front of the stator housing and the short went away. Since the three stator wires did not get rid of the short i thought it must be the pickup. So I went to the dealer and bought a pickup and changed it, and no change. Then i thought, its gotta be the ground wire going into the stator, so with the connector unplugged i grounded the black wire. That was it, with the black wire grounded, i had 1.7 M ohms, without it grounded i had an open circuit. The only thing that this leaves is the MPEM. I've bid on a used one on Ebay, but now i'm thinking that maybe the short could be in the VTS. I'll unplug the VTS and see if this gets rid of my short. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try this

 check the starter i know i had that same problem and i removed my starter and put a new one in and the battery drain went away. I would start with the starter and disconnect it and see if the battery still has the drain. If not let me know and i'll see what i can come up with.

It sounds like it might be the VTS. Disconnect the plug and see what you get. The solenoid relay does insulate the starter from the battery.

OK, i've unplugged the vts and nothing changes. It appears that it is in the MPEM. Right now i have the exhaust off because it had frozen and busted one of the plugs in the bottom. as soon as i get it welded up and back together i'm gong to run it to see if its charging. If it is charging then i'll probably just leave it because it must be in the MPEM.
