Just bought a 97 spx took it out once fouled the plugs put new plugs in it today took it out ran like a banshee for about 2 mins then it bogged down to like 5-8mph all the way back to the dock once I let off the throttle it died when I go to turn it over the starter seems fine and powering like it should but the engine just makes a click sound like somethings stopping it from turning over. I pulled the plugs and does the same thing no turnover just clicks. I'm going to pull the head tomorrow and see what's lingering below but any insight on where to start would be great because I'm in way over my head on this one and will need the expertise on this site thanks in advance for your time

Pull the PTO rave valve housing, take a look see down in the bore. If it looks like carnage you can bet the rest ain't gonna be pretty when you pop the head. Reading that you just got it, did you replace the fuel lines and clean the carbs? Or was it a fire it up and roll out deal?

It was a fire up an go deal now that I think about it I am a little stupid for just dropping it in the water and just punching it as soon as I left the dock didn't let any oil or gas circulate through since everything was almost empty when I bought it. It has the grey fuel lines which I was working on replacing I just finished getting the vts system all back in working order and went to try it and this happened. I'm really hoping it's just a piston and ring or connecting rods and I can hopefully learn how to put that stuff in. I just hope it's not a hole motor that needs replacing
