I replaced the starter selenoid on my speedster and when I plug it in, it runs the starter. Nice thing about having 2 engines. If I plug it into the other selenoid, it does the same thing. I believe that it would be a relay causing the problem, but I can't seem to be able to locate it. Any thoughts. I had this boat for about 5 years and have been able to troubleshoot on my own, but need help with this. Love it, fun to drive.

Okay, The port engine would not turn over when I pushed the start button. I moved the stater wire to the starboard selenoid and it started, assumed that the problem was the selenoid on the port motor. I replaced the selenoid and now when I plug in the wiring harness, it turns over. It is not the switch. I assume that there is a relay between the start switch and the selenoid. I cannot locate that relay.

Funny, it would not turn over at the end of the season last year and now that I changed the sarter selenoid , it wants to turn over without pushing the button. I will try to trace the wires when this hurricane is done. Thanks for the wiring diagram. Should be a big help.

So the starter selenoid has consistent power to it. Coming out of the mpem. Looks like the starter button wire goes directly to mpem. Don't see any problems with the wire and already established that it is not the switch. Mpem malfunction?

you are sure it is not the switch? the switch could be jammed in the closed position sending constant power to the solenoid

exciting......so....i guess the options are:
1. there is a short in the wires going to the start/stop switch closing the circuit.
2. there is a short in the wires going to the solenoid sending power on the hot wire.
3. something in the mpem sending power down to the solenoid.
4. bad solenoid.

did i miss anything?

Lol, I find it depressing. I'll go with 1 or 3. I think I will try cutting the wires coming from the switch, near the mpem. That should tell me if there is a short coming from the switch wires. The wires from the mpem to the selenoid are short, so I would be able to see if it is shorted. I hate to cut, but if that what it takes. If course it is raining again. I need a garage.

Not teally sure of your issues,,,if the starter continues,,,then mostly it is a stuck selenoid,,,if not,,then maybe the start button is sticking,,,just do a continuity test on the switch,,,it should be open,,,did you try switching the start buttons?,,,not sure,,,

I tried both buttons. I unhooked the wires going into mpem and the wires going to the selenoid are still hot. So the wires coming out of mpem going to one engine works with the switch and the other constantly hot.

Almost sounds like bad connection...did you check the fuse packs,,,not sure if yours has them

Checked all the fuses. I was thinking that there was a relay between the switch and the mpem. If there is one, it is part of the mpem. The engine does run. I'm thinking about putting another switch on the wires going to the starter relay. That might be a cheap way to fix it.

Well, the switch idea worked! I was worried because I wasn't sure how I was going to shut it down, but shuts down with original switch. In the water tomorrow. Thanks for talking me through this. Lol
