Hi All
can anyone tell me how to remove the rear seats from my 97 speedster so i can recover them???
thanks for the help Troy

pain in da arse....thers 2-3 bolts in the engine compartment for back rest, then at arm padding, I had to pry that part up, snapped in there with a slig look'n thing on each, for bottom, theres 4 bolts above the gas tank, reach WAY in there get those, plus, the x-mas tree snaps, along withit...good luck

Looking at your parts list you have 1 bolt holding each arm rest in place. Mine is the same way. I just had all of my uhpolstery redone. The way I had to remove the bolts from the arm rest was on the passenger I removed the cup holder and had to get help as my arm was not small enough to fit thew hole but most skiny people shoud be ok. On the driver side I had to remove the throtal and shifter cables then I was abe to reach that bolt myself. These arm rest were the most difficult part of removing all the seats.

1997 speedster

Can anyone give me an idea of what kind of money I am about to spend. I am need to get my 97 speedster completely reUpholstered. If you have gotten yours done lately or just have an idea please let me know. Thanks.h

speedster seats

Yeah,,I'm having a heck of a time with my seats too!!! My arm wont fit in the cup holder , which I already destroyed taking out. Reaching under the seat and above the gas tank looks nearly impossible with 2 engines in there. I'm giving it a rest for a few days before I go back in and do anything rash. Good luck to you..

I got a quote for the top and bottom parts both, it was 12-20 hours of work at 65 an hour. Dont know if they included materials or not. Another member got his done for 600. You can prob wheel and deal right now with the economy doing poorly. I just redid my seats for about $200, but its not the easiest project I've ever undertaken. There is a thread in this section if ur interested.

Where did everyone get decent material? Thinking about taking this on with my Sportster. Never done it, but I'm pretty handy.

Any tips?

Use original as pattern, sew pcs, 3M spray glue each, reassemble and stretch (might have to multipc the bolsters parts), and then stainless staple. Sound about right?

spend some cash

My favorite local car upholstery guy made my Speedster look like new money for $1,000. He is the poor slob who had to do all of that seat pull out a replace stuff you are groaning about, and he is a master. My seats were a nightmare. ......chunks out of the foam included.

All I did was wite the check.......felt great

thanks

i just bought a 96 speedster that's in pretty rough shape and it's outrageous how much these places charge to re-upholster seats. now, i found this website and decided to do it myself. thanks everyone for all of the tips. i'll post anything new i figure out as i get this done.

do you still have these templates? are you willing to sell them? my seats are so old and baked that they hold their shape so i cant flatten them out enough to use them as templates. your seats look great and i would like to buy your templates if you are willing to sell them.

Check ebay, there is some guy who makes the covers for a reasonable price.. He is located in Florida I think.. On mine I was only able to get one bolt out on each arm rest... I pulled straigt up on the side I could not get out and it came off pretty easy. When I reinstalled it I put some silicone on the spot where the push nut came out of the bottom and reintalled. It has held great.. Good luck!

Does anyone can tell me how to remove the seats from my sea doo speedster 1997, I remove the rest, but I have no idea how to access the bottom seat bolts and the front seat, thanks a lot!

I haven't been on here in a while b/c the boat has been running flawless since i sent the mpem out to Texas, fixed the broken manifold stud, and soldered the melted fuse block myself.
Recently I got a spare speedster hull and it came with trashed vinyl seats. So, I'm gonna reupholster them for sale soon.
I have done this several times and my work is evident on my mint condition 96 speedster.
I switched my personal colors to royal (marina) blue bolsters with white inserts/seat backs and white bow seat.
If anyone is interested in getting new upholstery, PM me. I will do whatever color combo you would like (pending availability). I would personally recommend lighter colors, my royal blue seats absorb some serious sun and burn my girl's ass in the summer. Here's the current color selection for 4 way stretch. http://www.rochfordsupply.com/color_popup.asp?prodid=11956&form=0

Hi, could I get a price on grey and the lighter blue covers for a 96 challenger if you are still sewing? There is a place nearby that will do it, but they want a fortune. Thanks.
