So I sucked up somebodies random rope this weekend and it locked up my impellar where it simply wouldn't turn and kept the engine from turning over. I trailered the boat and got underneath it and was able to remove the rope. However, while removing the rope, some blue plastic pieces came out with the rope. It looked like parts of some sort of sleeve.

Can someone tell me what that blue plastic was and if not having it will cause a loss of horsepower? That engine just doesn't go like it used to!!!

Thanks!

Most likely is the drive shaft protector, a useless part. Next time you remove the pump just remove what's left of the drive shaft protector.

Is it something I should remove the pump to do even if I wasn't planning on removing the pump anytime soon? Also, just a general question, when I remove the pump will that give me access to the entire impeller assembly? I've always thought I've heard something rattling in there but I've never been able to see anything.

Thanks for the response Lou!

I would just leave it until you need to service the pump or replace the wear ring.

It's also normal for the pump the rattle until it loads up, there's about 1/8" play in the impeller shaft.
