I just recently purchased a used 97 gtx that had been sitting up for about 3 years. After a lot of tlc and cleaning, rebuilding the starter and replacing the battery , I finally got it running in the yard. I took it out on the river and it ran great. I kept it out for 2 - 3 hours, about 1 hour into the ride it died on me , like i pulled the lanyard out, even though I did not. So then it would not start untill a few minutes of (duh, what do I do now) I pulled out the lanyard and put it back and it started right up. No more problems that day. I took it out today , after charging the battery ,because it would not start in pre trip check , then it started fine in the yard and at the river. So off I go , I get a bout a mile away from the dock and it dies, so then I pul lanyard out ,put it back, it fires right up, for about 30 seconds , dies again, does this several more times , until I finally kill the weak battery and get stranded.

I get it back home and charge the battery and it fires right up. I ran it for about 10 seconds and cut it off because I did not have the hose out, then I hook the hose up fire it up , and by the time i turn the water on it dies again., and then again. I give up for tonight. Any ideas anyone....???

cutting out,...

Try washing your lanyard and post with warm soapy water just to eliminate the problem of a dirty lanyard/post. Phew.. tough one.. could be several issues here... when it cuts out do you lose all power to your dash as well or just the engine dies? Check all your electrical connections and make sure they have good snug fits and groundings. Let us know the outcome and we'll go from here.

Dess post clean

I have already tried cleaning the lanyard post rerpeatedly. I checked all the connections I could find all seem snug. Now I have to admit that my info gauge , in its entirety, does not work. I took it apart and it is coroded inside very bad. But the jet ski did run for several hours without it , so I dont think that is the problem. I am trying to find a used one but no luck so far.

I have been tinkering with it some more and found that water seeps from around the exhaust chamber pressure relief valve, when I have it running, is that normal?
