I am brand new here and as a PWC owner so any help or ideas would be appreciated. I have a manual and I am a decent older car mechanic so if you spell it out I can give it a whirl....

I have it in the shop along with the pipe from my other one, apparently the freeze plugs went out and the dang thing almost flooded the engine compartment... I am getting those welded but the guy at the shop tells me its about $500 to rebuild the carbs~!~!~@!~ WOW ~!~ Is that a fair price??

Is there anything I need to look at???

I read about compression and I see karl posting about the RAVE I looked them up and wonder how hard is it to get them off and could that be my problem??

Any help is appreciated~!!~

Shop labor is running $100-$120 an hour around here. Throw in a $110 carb kit, the manifold gaskets under the carbs and you get pretty close to $400 real fast.

Thanks guys, the cost here in New Orleans is $75 an hour and the guy said it was about 4-5 hr job... Just wondering if it sounded right...

Wish I knew how to do it myself... If any of you guys live around here I will pay you but I want to help so I can learn.. Anyone live here and KNOW what they are doing??

these carbs are pretty simple and tough. you can take them apart and clean them out without usually needing kits. they use o-rings instead of gaskets for the most part. $500 will buy you a spare engine for cripes sake. go over the rest of the fuel system and make sure you have fuel flow to the carbs before you do the carbs. the smoke is a different issue. nothing to do with fuel. the rotary valve chamber in the middle of the crankcase is full of oil. the inner seals on the crank always seep a little when sitting. first run of the year is usually a bit smoky. it should burn off. this motor, though does have a problem with the seals flat-out failing. if the smoke doesn't go away, you need your crankshaft redone, which means realistically you need a motor.
