I have a 1997 GSX, the white machine with red and has loads of red decals.

had the machine for three years, only had 19 hours on it when we bought it.

We have loved it and it looks brand new, always kept under the cover.
anyways, my wife hit a wave the other day and the rubber buttons for the power trim seemed to have shifted up a bit within the steering wheel.

They are like a black rubber button cover. The buttons are actually behind these rubber things. I can stick my pinky finger in and press the white button behind to lower trim and use the rest of the black rubber button to activate the trim to trim up so it works fine, but we'd love to get it back in its proper position. We are also concerned that if it got wet inside these buttons now if anything would go wrong, elcetrically or otherwise. ANy idea how to slide this thing back down would be greatly appreciated. I have somewhat tried flat head screwdriver and needlenose plyers, but i'm worried about either wrecking the buttons or ripping the rubber for the buttons.

Thanks,

i appreciate that, and i will do so by tuesday morning. I am heading to charbot lake in the early morning, if i happen to get a chance before i go i will do it, if not as soon as i'm back i will.

Oh this is an easy one.....just not an obvious one.

Take off the handlebar grip. Take a toothpick or small screwdriver to pop out the end cap. There is a screws under it. Once you remove the screw, the grip slides off.

Now you can see the edges of the steering bar pad and the button pod. Take a very small hex allen key UNDER the bar behind the button pod. It is recessed and looks like a drain hole, but there really is a set screw in there.

Diagram here will help visualize what I am describing.

Once everything is loose, you should be able to move it around to fix the button. I think the switch is screwed in to the button pod - so that might need to be removed to get it out.

thanks for your help.

i took it all apart and the button modules were there, it seems that the VTS knob has gone missing, must have popped off when my wife hit the wave. ANyways i used the link u sent to order a new knob, once it arrives i'll let you know how it went putting it back in, thanks again for your help it was greatly appreciated.
