hey guys

quick question here, this weekend I'm planning on pulling my
pump to determine if this is why my motor wont turn, I can
not even turn the flywheel by hand so.... When
the pump is pulled out should I be able to turn the pump by hand ?

once pump is out, should i also be able to now turn the flywheel
provided the motor is not seized or hydrolocked ?

if it does turn it suggests that my motor is seized or hydrolocked would
this be the correct analysis ?

I have removed the starter already just to ensure It wasnt
jammed up causing the motor to bind and not turn, my next
step as stated above is to check the pump.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

if you pull the pump off the ski then yes you should be able to spin the imperller by hand. if the motor still doesnt turn over then it sounds like the head will need to come off so you see what is going on with the pistons.

pull the plugs, and give a turn., spray some pb blaster down holes, and let sit, rock PTO, back/forth, maybe piston is rusted tight...

thanks guys will do. FYI my nephew had it out and was warming it up
when this happened, he said it just died.water had not previously been a problem, ie water in the hull. So with any luck its a frozen pump. i will let all of you know my findings. Too my knowledge the pump has never been
serviced and is over due, from the manual it says it should be serviced
every 50 hrs and I think I'm hitting close to 80 hrs plus

thanks this forum rocks!

i doubt it. pumps rarely sieze in front of you, unless you hear them scream and hear the revs drop as it siezes. they usually rust up over the winter. but, it is possible. and if the engine is siezed, the pump has to come out anyway. start with the free stuff and work your way up to the expensive stuff.

wooo... its been a rough ride but now I finally can get to the serious
stuff. As previously mentioned my motor just stoped on me. now
I'm leaning towards hydrolocked / seized motor. I pulled the starter
it checks out fine, I pulled the pump it too check out ok and rotates
smoothly. As Tommyboy mentioned I will try and shoot some of
the pb stuff and see if I can get the pto to move but it doesnt
at all right now.

If i need to take this in if the motor is rusted / frozen up perhaps
to water ingestion what would a repair like this run ?

any other thoughts or analysis of my situation would be apreciated

thanks.....

also a question.. if the pistons rusted tight, is it possible for that
to even happen if it was running ? It was running for probably
15 min before this happened. I see it happening if it sat
the entire winter but I dont know....what do you think ?

If the oil system stopped working and it got hot, it could have seized up, just like that. If you can't get the engine to turn over counter clockwise, I would pull the cylinder heads and take a look inside. If it got real hot and damaged the crank it might be cheaper to get a re-manufactured engine, opposed to rebuilding the old engine. With the jet pump out of the hull, and the plugs removed, see if the rear shaft coupling will turn either by hand or with a pipe wrench. Be careful not to hurt yourself or the hull while trying to turn the engine over.

Keep us posted on you findings.

if it just quit in front of you, it won't be rust. nothing rusts that fast. serious overheat, it could be pistons. but this is a crankshaft failure. you need a motor.
