1997 gti beeps when you connect lanyard but nothing when you push start button. Battery reads 11.85v . Can short solenoid and it turns over. Has water in bottom of the box where batery cables connect to solenoid and other stuff. Any ideas????
I had the exact same problem on my 97 gti this year. the problem ended up being the fuse holder in the solenoid box was corroded and the 3 ground wires on the coil were funky. (the ground wire going to the starter could also cause this problem.) Check those things first.:hat:
if it cranks when you jump solenoid, it is usually the solenoid. if solenoid got wet, it is always the solenoid. it is a mechanical device, and dies when it isn't rusted.
