Hey guys,
Picked up a 97 seadoo challenger1800 . The port side (left) engine tach reads 7000 all the time. Was starting to run the wires, figured Id check see if any one had a common solution. The Fuel gage also appears to be on E but looking at the tank it has 1/2 or so. Finally found the wires in the sending unit, checked the connection, good, have to do a test yet. Other than that I take it the floats in these get pretty gummed up?
This did have the MPEM replaced as well. The dealer did it, and went with the dual MPEM setups instead. Wired it very nicely (not hacked together, lots of wires and connectors but from the job done it is very good looking compared to some hacked up swaps I have seen). I have to start the starboard (right) engine first.
The old owner said that once in a while it would have an issue were it would not start and just crank. Hed let it sit and come back and it would fire up and run all day. I ran all the grounds, tightened everything and double checked it. Swaped out the battery, DESS post, Key. Beeper works checked that. Anything else I should check before I take it out and see if I can get it to repeat that. (other than a paddle?)
Last thing, how do you test to make sure the system reads the temp sensor. I figured it would need to be grounded, but figured Id ask first. Will that set off the buzzer? Looking one of the tops cracked off and I will be replacing that (the system doesnt kill it if it does not read the sensor right?
Sorry for the mass of questions, but thanks for the answers in advanced. Looking forward to enjoying the water
