97 Challenger Rave Question

I recently bought a 97 Challenger 1800. It needs some cosmetic work but overall seemed well maintained mechanically. It has been a series of experiences, none bad yet but experiences none the less.

It ran great for a few weeks and then I had a drop in low-speed performance and noticed a drip of oil coming from aft starboard RAVE valve. I tried to open it up but the spring is melted into the inside of the cap. I pulled some small bits of plastic out of the spring but didn't want to force it apart until i had it off the water. I gather this is from blow by oil from a failed o-ring. Do I need to worry about the size/shape of the hole the shaft goes through? I would like to replace the bellows on that valve and one other which has the greenish guts. Can I reuse the rest of the valve? What do I nedd to buy to rebuild these 2 valves? I am not sure what is included in various rebuild kits. What parts do I need to make sure I have on hand for the job? I guess it won't hurt to have a few extra parts to put in the toolbox. I have the manuals and have watched a few videos of various rebuilds and it seems like a pretty staright forward and simple job. Is there anything to watch out for? Unfortunately the boat it in at the lake in Maine and I am in Massachusetts so I can not pull it apart to check specific parts. I would like to show up and be able to complete the job in one trip.

Thanks fo rall your help.

SBT sells a rebuild kit, and most dealers have 'em in stock too. But yes, you should check the housing for wear (the hole) and even check the blade shaft itself.

I burnt a cap up on mine recently so I got a rebuild kit which is just a gasket and an o-ring. Burnt that up again first time out. I ended up having to replace the housing and blade itself along with the rest of the rave that burnt up. also replaced the housing and blade and rebuilt the other one so it didnt happen again. Personally I would just replace the whole thing especially if it is looking old and worn. The rave valve consists of the housing, blade, bellows, piston, small circle spring, large circle spring, tension spring and cap assembly.

I put in an order at lunch for 4 rebuild kits, 2 pistons and 1 cap. I didn't even think that I might need the spring. Hopefully I can get by without it. I will clean and rebuild all of them this weekend. I will closely inspect the valve body and blade on the melted valve and replace them if needed.
Thanks
