I have a 97 sea-doo challenger with a single motor. I just purchased a Skat-Trak 14.5/22.5 impeller for it as the old was dinged up. Could use some advise on what else i should do or replace while changing the impeller.

Thanks

You should probably replace the wear ring. There should be no more than .040 clearance (about the thickness of a dime) between the wear ring and the impeller.

Also you should replace the "O" ring on the impeller cone, make sure the bumper is on the drive shaft, and put some marine grease on the drive shaft where it goes into the impeller. It might also be a good time to check the carbon seal.

Here's a thread, written by one of the best on this forum.

So, i took the pump off with relative ease because it's been a fresh water boat. Only real problem i had was with the pump fitting on top. It finally snapped off so i will need a new one. Is it normal for these to be so difficult or is it possible that the previous owner made some kind of repair? As you can see in my pic, there is a lot of silicone around the pump fitting.

Also, as you can see in the pic, there is some fiberglass wear where the pump inserts. Should this be repaired also and with what?

Thanks

I use this from HF much easier to use and safer than the sawzall, also less apt to do damage. Use the plunge blade. Surprise it's even on sale.

Thanks Lou...i ended up using a wood chisel and it worked relatively well. BTW, the freezer method was no good!

Now i need to work on that broken spicket. Hopefully my impeller will be here tomorrow and then i can put it back together.

wow, yes that fiberglass is torn up, looks like something was sucked up and spun around with the impeller...
you can use MarineTex to fix that...
I`m pretty sure that water pipe is replaceable #15 http://www.sea-doopart.com/oemparts/a/sea/500cfc9af870021b3c6a8009/propulsion

was the hose disconnected prior to pulling the pump? it looks like it came out some before it snapped.
don`t forget to get a new pump foam seal and use The Right Stuff Black RTV or Ultra Black RTV sealant when assembling.
Look in the shop manual to see where the placement of the sealant is...

Thanks for the info Pale Rider. I think the waterline may have been cracked because it snapped off with a little pressure. Plus, i did forget to take the hose off from the inside. I have already ordered the fitting and have the foam seal and pump oil already.

So before i install the pump, i will definitely fix the glass. It will be a couple of months before i hit the water anyway and i want it to be as perfect as i can get her.

What type of MarineTex do you reccomend? Epoxy putty or the rapid set?

Thanks
