97 Challenger hard to start when warm

This kinda follows a similar thread going on now with a 97 Challenger.

This year I put on brand new carbs, which are supposed to be direct replacements. Specifically part # 204250069 PTO and 204250068 MAG.

They look identical to the olds ones (the old ones had an eccelerator pump nozzles that were plugged and could not break free plus other problems).

The problem I am now having is hard starting after sitting a few minutes when warm. It will start fine if I use 1/2 throttle but it is definetly loaded up Shouldnt have to do this.

The carbs were brand new, never used (wrapped in the box) and function great other than that.

One point that I noted during the installation was the accel pump ajusting screw seemed to be glued and also had a white stripe painted on it (like they didnt want you to change it). I tried a bit, but the nut was very secure and I didnt want to bend anything. As it sits, it was set-up to just make contact with the trottle plates fully closed. On the boat with the throttle adjusted for idle, the accel pump is partially activated my a small amount.

Any thoughts here?

Any ideas here. To me almost seems like a bad needle and seat. Can I check this on the boat using a pop-off test? Just tired of pulling the carbs on this thing. I was hoping new ones would end that.

Yep.... if it's loading up after a run... either the needle and seat are leaking... or the accelerator pump is leaking.

They are "NEW" Mikuni carbs?

Hey Larry, I may be the other thread you mention,

http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?41610-Hard-to-start-after-floating-around

I tried to launch the boat a couple days ago and did not even get off the trailer. Dang thing started and ran OK but would not go past 1/2 throttle. At 1/2 it bogged and missed and smoked. So I shut her down, brought it home and going to order carb kits today.

I have been following your thread and hope you get it figured out, sounds like we have similar issues. Although you with brand new carbs should not be having trouble, mine is a used boat. Maybe the seller was not completely honest about the way it ran.

Anyway, good luck.

Yep, brand new never used. Purchased them new in the box off of e-bay. Visual inspection doesnt indicate any sort of use or dissassembly. Still wrapped up and in the OEM box.
