i am pulling the carbs on my 97 challenger 1800 today to rebuild them. i have one of the carbs completely loose, but i cant get the cable that controls the shutter on the carb loose. i dont know if anyone will even know what i am talking about because i dont know the proper names for all this stuff, but i am stuck. if anyone knows please let me know so i can get this thing on the water.....thanks

I know what you mean...it's not a shutter it's a "throttle valve" or butterfly for slang. To loosen the cable use a little PB BLASTER and spray t on the locking nut at the cable. Let it set for a short time and give it a turn with a 10 MM wrench. Then move the cable out the slot and around the Cable Disk to remove the cable. For the rod that connects both carbs, just pop of the end off the plastic knuckle. That way it will still be in sync when it's installed again without haveing to adjust it.
Keep us posted.
I hope this helps you get to the water faster...

It worker just liked you said, thanks alot. I have been way busy at work for the past week so have not got to get on or work on the boat. oh well, i got the carbs all rebuilt today and am almost have them all back in. Just trying to get the fuel lines all back on, and some of them are a real pain in my, well you know. I also got my starter back yesterday, the company i bought it from said that it was in good working condition but my drive gear was badly rusted and binding up. They took it apart and cleaned and lubed it, and said it works just fine now. They said that i must have water getting into my bell housing area, so i dont know what is going on with that. I am going to put it back in and get the carbs all back on and take her out for a bit on friday to make sure all is well, and man, i am praying that is what my problems are. The shop down here has a three week wait for service, that would not be good. Thanks for the help, and by the way, do any members live or boat in the central texas area, specifically Ft. Hood/Killeen/Belton

I'm glad it worked out for you.I would also check the cover over the Magneto and see if it needs a new seal. If it is leaking it could cause problems with the stator assy. and the charging coil if it gets rusted too. Go and re-post int the region area ans ask if there are any other people in you area... The form just added a region area to help members get acquainted. Look on the home page at the bottom.

Sounds good carl, I do have one more question. My challenger's interior isnt in the best of shape and I have looked at replacing it with OEM parts and it is VERY expensive. Do you know around how much people have paid trim shops to update their interior. I cant find one here in town, and would have to drive an hour to get an estimate, and with gas the way it is, that is really going to suck if it is going to be about the same as buying all new seats. Thanks

You could give it a go your self, it's just stapled on to a plastic backing. Most car trimmers would be able to do it for you, they don't charge that much, it depends on the material you use. Plus time, $50 or so per hour. If you take the cushions off and take them in, it wont cost much at all!
