96GTX info guage vs 97 guage wiring

I have a 96 GTX that the info guage is shot. I purchased a new(er) one on ebay from a 97 gtx. from what I can see is that the orginal has a Gas icon in the middle bottom, and the new one has an oil icon/light. Someone told me that I needed to cut and switch the oil wire from the other guage to this one. Is this correct and how should I go about doing this?

The Blue and Blue/Black wires are the oil sender wires. The Purple wire is the power+ and the black is the - The Pink and the Pink/Black are the gas sender wires. I hope this info helps you.

Can I just plug in the 97 guage to the 96 or do I need to clip and Paste the wires?

I did a search and found on other pwc sites that this is a fix for info guages and many people were very suprised that it works. I have read where seadoo shop mechanics claim this works and they were suprised. I know this is not going to help you now but others that search in the future may come across this post. What I would recommend, is use the existing plug. If the new guage still has the wire ends on them either insert them in the old plug or cut them and solder the correct wires together and shrink wrap them to keep them water tight.

I just read your post regarding a fix for the Info Gauge. The info gauge on my 1996 GSX is getting harder and harder to read because the film looking material has a spot that is deteriating and getting larger every year. Is the material you identified used to cure this problem? If so, have you tried it or do you know of a link that would give me the details for using the material for repair.

I searched ebay and found the repair kit. worked for mine and wasnt hard to do,Toughest part is getting the clear plastic lense off without scratching it worth the 40bucks compared to a replacement unit
