96 XP no crank, no beep, no dash

Hey guys, new to the pwc scene but we just picked up a 1996 XP. We were told that the previous owner had the ski running this week, replaced the battery and then it wouldn’t power up the dash or beep with the dess. We have done the following so far.

Checked battery voltage: good

Checked ground continuity from battery to motor,Ebox up front and both were good

Checked Dess and had a faulty switch, replaced with a working one. ( this is where I’m newer to this side, when replacing the Dess does it need to be programmed to the MPEM? Can I use the MPEM off the parts ski that came with it on it?)

We have an entire ski that needs a rod bearing that we can take parts from, another 96 xp.

First make sure the little black ground wire from the rear electrical box is connected to the battery in addition to the big black ground cable.

If replacing the DESS post then no reprogramming is needed. Only replacing the lanyard requires reprogramming the mpem.
