Hi all,

I'm brand new here and have started having trouble with my XP. Last season, it started to get a bit flaky when connecting the lanyard, sometimes we'd get the beeps and it would start fine, other times nothing. Once it beeped, all was fine. This year, no beeps at all.

Pressing the start button still activates all the gauges and if I press it 5 times I get the 1 short been followed by 1 long beep.

I've tried the following tests and here is what I've found:

Safety Lanyard Switch Verification;
If 2 short beeps are not heard when installing the safety lanyard, disconnect the switch wires.
Safety lanyard removed;
connect the test probes to switch Black and Black/Yellow wires. It’s an open circuit, there should be no continuity.

Open circuit

Connect one test probe to the White/Gray wire and the other test probe to the switch terminal. Measure resistance, it should be “0” ohm.

Measures 0

Connect one test probe to the Black wire and the other test probe to the switch ring. Measure resistance, it must be close to “0” ohm.

Measures 0

Safety lanyard on switch; connect the probes to switch Black and Black /Yellow wires. Measure resistance, it must be “0” ohm.

Measures .569k

I'm hoping this verifies that I'm just dealing with a bad post? If this is the case, where would you suggest picking up a replacement?

Thanks,
Chase

My beeper has only worked sporatically for the last 5 years. I would not worry 2 much about it as long as you pay attention to the idiot lights.

If the engine over heats it will beep constantly...if you don't hear it, and you over heat the engine...and it will seize up.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, now that there is no beep, it won't start at all. Before it got to this point, they key seemed like it was getting flaky where if there were no beeps, nothing would happy (no start, etc), but after playing with it a bit, it would usually beep twice and then start and run just fine.

It just seems as though the key isn't being detected, so I'm hoping it may just be an issue with the post.
