96 XP MPEM work in 97 XP?

Im looking at fixing a 97 xp, it needs a motor 787, and a MPEM. I have MPEM out of a 96 are these compatible?

I am thinking they are the same, possibly the gauge connector is different but not sure.

it'll work, try it, see if everything works, but might need to trial and error with coil and rectifier...or x-reference those parts using the "PARTS" link above.

No it will not work at all.The 96 doesn't have the coded key and the 97 does.

The 96 XP MPEM does have DESS and it will not work or fit on a 97 XP.
