96 XP impeller shaft seal

Just wanted to confirm which way the seal is supposed to go in. I read that it goes with the spring/or open side out.
This seems backwards compared to any other seal I have installed, So is the seal in that way so it keeps the water out better?
This is a new seal from OSD, it doesn’t look the same as the seal I pulled out, guess it’s a new design?

Is that a good seal to use or not? They say it’s an updated seal.

Yes it is a good seal. I can't remember the direction though. Send them an email, the put pumps together so they will know the correct way.

If you put it in backwards you will peel the seal apart.

I put the spring facing in to the oil.
What do you mean it will peel the seal apart?

The seal has a slight taper to it to make it easier to install shafts.
