I recently "rebuilt" my recently acquired 96 Sea Doo XP 787 bone stock besides worx intake grate, was told it had barely 20 hours on it (confirmed). The mag cylinder was cracked so I replaced that, got both cylinders honed, replaced the rings and all new top end gaskets. Rebuilt carbs with OEM kits (needle+seat also), new fuel filter, cleaned petcock, all new fuel line and hose clamps. Not to mention jet pump work and rebuilt the starter and new starter cables, changed oil as well and converted to premix. Got the engine together and buttoned up inside the ski all ready to go and it started right up after I primed it but it started running at a CRAZY high idle, probably 3-4k rpms if I had to guess. I could not calm it down unless I fully choked it which killed it. I tried turning the idle screw back out and it did nothing. I had previously adjusted the throttle cables maybe I set it too high? I put it to where full throttle on the trigger was making it hit the stopper on the carb, was this too much? Or am I looking at an air leak in either my carb base gaskets or hopefully not crank seal(s) (did not check when engine was apart didn't see any need to, hope I don't regret that decision)
Are there any ways to check for each individual problem? I've heard of the brake cleaner around base gasket test but I have not ever heard of a crank seal test.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ASAP... Thanks!!
