96 xp fuel gauge and beep question

Hi I'm new to the forum and just picked up a 96 xp. When I attach the lanyard I don't get the 2 beeps and the digital fuel gauge doesn't come on at all. I checked in the storage cover and it looked to be all connected. I think it might be a fuse but I'm still new to the craft and just wanted to get some opinions before I go messing around. Also the vts works and it starts up right away. Not to sure if the beeping and the digital gauge coincide together or if anyone had any ideas...

The beepers go out all of the time. if you hold your ear next to the handlebar you will hear a click click....

the gauge can be several things. trace the purple wire at the back of it and make sure it is connected.

thanks ill have to check on tht when i get home today.... should i trace it from the connector in the storage compartment to the actual guage or from the connector back to the box/battery? becuase i looked at the connections behind the panel in the storage compartment and saw that it was connected to the main harness but i didnt trace it from there..

so this is probaly a stupid question but I'm in denial about this.... I took out my digital gauge and opened it up and the whole thing was filled with water!!!! I'm drying it out.... So u think it's completly dead?

My guess is it won't work but it doesn't hurt to try
