2-part question:
1.purchased a 96 xp. in trouble shooting a "no spark issue" i discovered that:
with the plugs in, when i tried to roll the engine with the stop/start button, the
engine was having symptoms of too much oil in it.
as for the no spark, resigned to the fact that: more than likely the electronic
brain as other causes fuses etc are good.

2. battery too weak to handle added compression? with laynard removed i get short and then longer beep, with red light for battery luminated.

You need to make sure the battery is in top condition to make sure your troubleshooting the right end of the problem.

the ski has been sitting for some time. charged the battery but not confident it would hold up under load.
With the plugs out it turned over fast enough to fire if electrical factors were in order. Coil, fuses, wires, all ok.
Before i sink too much into it i wanted to make sure, as possible at this point, that the turning over w/plugs in is synonymous with some other known problem.

Will have to swap battery with GTX to move forward. Wife was happy with one ski! so i have to be careful, at this point!
Thanks

Don't be quite so eager to chuck the MPEM/computer. Ignition system is still based on simple electromechanical principles. Coil, pickup, spark plug wires, wire boots, Magneto/Stator (wow sounds like an X-men movie, huh?).

If you are worried about too much oil, you could pinch off the supply hose - even if just a little bit of a pinch. If it is true you are oil flooding (pump/crank seals :ack:), then limiting the incoming oil for the purposes of a few test fires would reflect this.

Iwill give it a pinch test tomorrow. Battery checks out ok.
First inclination on lack of any spark was-the coil. A distant UP reagional sea doo mechanic said in his years of experience, he has seen very few problems with this coil.
When the ski barely turned with the plugs in, there was a whinning/low audible door buzzer type sound in the drive unit area.

From what i read, there seems to be little that can be bench tested in the electrical systems of these machines.

1997 GTX
1996 Project XP

And check the starter itself. Short the terminals directly on the starter with a screwdriver for the most direct connection. And the starter itself could be a little weak (brushes, corrosion, high resistance).

It might very well be the computer - but the other possible broken things should be tested (and they're certainly cheaper than the MPEM unit).
