So bought this speedster this spring. Have had it out maybe ten times. My wife is going thru chemo so we havent used it much or gone fast most times.
Past 2 times out the plugs have fouled.
Took it to seneca lake this weekend. Got out the first time plugs fouled, found the water inlet tube was cloged "maybe spider" blew threw out in the lake. the BEEP was almost constant untill it started.
Took out again made it about a mile andkilled battery couldnt get it started had to be towed back.

Got it home read up a little on whats up. First bad thing is compression... one cyl is at 90 psi, and second is at 120.

The next issue was the no spark. Pulled flywheel cover and found this at the bottomIMG_0925.jpg

Sooo... what next. I wanted to pull the flywheel but the gas tank is in the way of my puller, any help there would be aprreciated.

Craig sorry to hear about your wife going thru chemo, hope she gets well soon.
IMHO it is easier to just pull the engine since you have some major issues going on there and work on it on the bench.

bending over and in the boat to install top end kit, do a pressure test, and go thru everything is awkward at best... and look for the root cause of the plug fouling, chance are tho it`s in the electrics/flywheel.
might as well look at the carbs as well if they weren`t gone thru.

you best friend is a shop service manual!, good luck...

I agree pull the engine, you can do it in maybe 20min if you have an idea of what your doing. Be sure to clog the oil lines. You might want to double check the compression before doing a rebuild, I have had 2 gauges go bad on me recently. If you need some parts let me know, I can sell you some of mine for a good deal. I just parted out a 717.

I will deff need the whats it called the "stator" thats whats in pieces on the bottom of the flywheel cover .... Im just affraid the crank shaft is bent... why else is the stator is pieces? tells me something is off balance. and for compression to be low as well.

Sorry for the issues, and I hope your wife recovers fully. My wife recently had a scare with breast cancer, but after a few tests, and a biopsy, we found that her lump wasn't cancerious.

Anyway... a bent crank is going to be irrelivent. You need to do a rebuild. Since you are up in NY, the only way for you to get on the water again this season is to get an engine from SBT. They do an exchange. So... if you call them this morning... you will have an engine in your hands by the weekend. Then, you put your old engine in the box, and send it back.

You will still need a stator unit, since that is not part of the long block that SBT will send.
