96 sportster speed issue

Over the weekend i went on boat with 2 kids, one who is pretty large over 225 and myself and kid who is about 125. We could plane relatively easily to start. I then tried to pull the large child and never could seem to get going fast enough, the engine would whine a little and seem to be going to get going fast, and then act like it hit a maximum rpm and then would die back down in rpms, then I would hit the throttle again and then the same thing.

WHen he came back on board, I was able to get it going fast again.

Are we hitting the maximum passengers somehow for the boat? I am surprised it wont take off and handle 3 passengers fast enough to tow one.

Any suggestions?

Check your wear ring/impeller tolerance. If that is in spec, it may be your carbon seal.
