I have a 96 Sportster that I am working on, and it has an accelerator pump on the carbs, I am trying to figure out if this arrangement is oem, the parts list shows it as not being there?

Let me know, please.

Not sure, but check your carb and see if there is one on it. If so then the external one was added. Somebody will stop by with better answer.

Could be someone swapped a set of carbs from a newer ski on there?

Generally, the newer carbs are calibrated a little leaner, so BRP compensated by installing an accelerator pump?

Answer 1 is reffering to a fuel pump.
I am reffering to an accelerator pump.

Answer 2 was my initial thought, but all click-r clamps are in place w/ 1/4 a1 fuel line, looks very stock.

One speculation was based on a 5/16 input for fuel, but this one is a 1/4, so that all means that the mechanic that did or did not change the parts had an click-r tool, extra. Set of carbs, and enough sense to pull plate and swap it.

This is a mystery.

I am hoping one or two folks that own one, known to be oem chime in.

Don't most service shops have these Oetiker clamp pliers? We charge a lot for service work, so have them at our marina. I really think they're a PITA honestly, but they do look professional.

Nope, we don't have those! Did Seadoo use those back in '96? Not sure if Tempo fuel line was being used at the time, but it may have been the only available A1 rated fuel line at the time the factory could use?

Yes the click-r clamps are on the skis and boats, I have seen them on all of the units, I have worked on that where not fuel injected.

That is right, all the boats have a1 fuel line and the skis have tempo line, not sure when they stopped that on the skis, or if they did, I have two 2000 xp's, I will check them for both.

But back to the question at hand, It looked minty oem, that is the mind boggler, I do not believe someone who ones one of these years has not stepped in????

I'm pretty certain that SeaDoo did not use carbs. with accelerator pumps until the 97 models, but I guess if you have a late 96 it could have them from the factory. Personally I prefer the non-accel. carbs., I have found the accel. carbs. are a PIA. Maybe it's just me.

BTW those HCL clamps are great for using on the boot bellows for the VTS.

Have you seen a 97 sportster with a 720 and accelerator an pump?

Nope, in fact the only 717 I have seen with accelerator pumps, are single carb. models. I'm not saying they don't exist I've just never seen one.

Yeah, me to, I am starting to think / been thinking, that this boat came out of Florida and some mechanic did some fiddling, probably had the caillau pliers, I have them to, so it would not be far fetched.

Maybe it was a performance increase in his thoughts....

I just can't figure out how you would out smart an Austrian engineer...............

So I just put stuff back to the book.

Book shows no accelerator pump on this model.

wouldn`t the jets and specs be different? I`ve seen this difference in carbs from model to model.

if you removed the accel pump, I would check the jetting sizes...

Yes, you would definitely need to use smaller jets, what size I don't know, probably a good question for the Doc. I think I would try to pick up a set on Ebay for that engine, they get pretty cheap this time of year, or try minnetonka4me.

No, I have a whole building full of spare parts and engines.

Yes that is where I have seen the accelerator pump at , I have a nice set off a 98 spx.

I have some nice oem carbs, just trying to reach a final decision on what I am going to do with this carb setup.

The carbs that came off it are toast, not even sure if I can read the jets that where in it, but a guess is that the person that went through the trouble to install them right would have rejetted the, just a guess though.

This is like the fuel line debate , there is right, wrong and something that works.

no clear answer unless, some one, comes on and says I have a 96 sportster and I know (for sure) my set up is OEM.

wouldn`t this show you the correct jet size?

and for giggles, here is a list I had on hand.

That is right.

But, like I said the setup on this unit looked way to original to not have been oem.

That is what started this quandary, the oem parts fische, showing no accelerator pump.

I was just hoping somewhere in the web I could come up with a decisive comparison, before I made up my mind which set up I was going to use.

there is this >

http://osdparts.com/index.php?main_page=product_free_shipping_info&cPath=1&products_id=37

Then the only time it shows up is this >

http://osdparts.com/index.php?main_page=product_free_shipping_info&cPath=1&products_id=38

I have done a lot of research and asking around before I started the thread.

Just no luck on a comparable.

Can't find one picture of a 96 sportster showing the carbs on the internet, at least not with google.

After looking at the list I am thinking someone nabbed these off of a 97 challenger, but that still does not speak to the 1/4 fuel input vs 5/16, someone would have had to have rejetted and swapped the fuel plate.

Comparison >

So this is not a dry thread, I am going to post a picture of what came in last weekend, for fun>
