I have a 1996 SeaDoo Sportster 85hp boat and am having some serious ignition and/or electrical problems. The boat will start and run normally with no problems. But at some undetermined amount of time, the boat will just cut off as though it's lost total power. At this point, we have to take the key off and back on numerous times until we can get the double beep to start it back up. So it's a problem that fixes itself (seems it could be a relay problem or something of that nature) but happens repeatedly. The boat could run just fine for 15 minutes but then cut off out of nowhere and continue to cut off numerous times in a short period. We have replaced the key and key module and got a new computer chip to match it thinking that would solve the problem, but no such luck. Any advice??? Anyone else had a like experience? Thanks! Did you try clean the lanyard post to see if it was making a good contact?I would start by cleaning the Post on the safety lanyard. It is beeping and saying it isn't connecting to the Mpem, (Multi Purpose Electronic Module) It needs to beep 2 times to let you know it is ready to start. Clean the post and cap with soapy water. Don't use any grease of lubricant on it as it needs a clean connection to make contact. Connect the lanyard to see if it is making a connection.

Hey Karl-
Thanks for the input. I have not yet cleaned the new lanyard and new post we got to replace the old ones. The previous owner of the boat said exaclty what you did, thinking it was a connection problem. So we inturn took the boat to a dealer and had all new parts put in (lanyard, lanyard post, and reprogramed the chip) hoping to fix the problem, but no luck. So we are thinking it may have something to do with the MPEM itself (ie. bad relay or heat induced problem not sure). I'm basically in the dark when it comes to anything electrical on the boat. Any advice what it could be besides a bad connection? Because I hope that was taken care of when we spent the money to replace the old parts.
Thanks, Garrett

The mpem isn't blowing any fuses is it? It might be a bad mpem...I would bring it back to the installing dealer to have them check the mpem for a connection.
