What you need:
-Sheet of Marine Grade plywood
-1x2x10 strip
-Handle/s of ur preference
-Plastidip (optional)
-Water Resistant Carpet (Optional)
-Sheet of Fireproof Foam W/Mylar
-Staple Gun w/staples
-3M 77 Glue
-Screws
1) Cut out a 50" x 24" piece of ur plywood
2) On a 50" side place a mark 3.5" in on both sides. Draw a line from each mark up to the corner on the same side. Now cut those marks and u have the "V" shape of the engine compartment. One side is 50" wide and the other should be 43" wide.
3) On the 50" side notch out 1.5"x2" rectangle from each corner. This lets ur tray actuall stick back under a couple extra inches while still clearing oil tank/hoses.
4) On the 43" side start to round ur corners from about 4" up and 4" across. I would cut a little then place in boat, cut a little, place in boat. I did this until I was happy with the fit.
5) I cut the 1x2 strips to the length of the back lip that sticks out toward oil tank. I stacked three up, pre drilled holes and attached them to plywood as a "stop" to keep things from sliding into engine area.
6) I sprayed Plastidip over the entire tray and it actually looked pretty good. I did it for water resistant purposes but u may be happy n wanna stop here. If so, attach handles and throw it in the boat!
7) Wrapped with carpet by using staples and glue. (Thought glue would also be helpful in water resistance.) the corners can be tricky, especially in the back where the "stop" is. I just pulled as tight as I could get it n stapled along bottom. I also let carpet overlap on bottom for more noise cancelling.
8) Attach handle
9) attach the fireproof foam to bottom side. I used staples and glue with the Mylar side facing engines.
10) STORAGE! Happy Wife, Happy Life
I explained the best I could, wish I woulda took pictures now but it's too late. If nothing else the starting measurement should be a help at least. Feel free to ask any questions. It's amazing how much this decreases the sound of ur boat engines! Now to modify the bow seat cushion n see if we can't fabricate a built in cooler!
