we got a 96 seadoo speedster last spring and took it out a handful of the second to last time we took it out we put a gallon of oil in and were out on the water for 3 hours then a couple of days later we took it out again and after 45 min on the water one engine went out and then the other. After we got into the engine we could see that the pistons had seized because we went through a gallon of oil in 4 hours. Does anyone know if it might be due to the oil injection system malfunctioning or maybe a leak somewhere else? I talked to someone that has worked on some pwc and he says that the oil injection system is rarely the problem. It seemed to be blowing a lot of smoke even for a 2 stroke before is seized. Anyone have any thoughts on this? We sent our engine to full bore and should get it back this week or next.

If the cable is not connected I twill default to max oil injection. That is the one thing I would look at..

Was there any oil in the bilge? Check the little lines that go from the pump to the intake manifold. Had you ever had to cycle oil out of the engine after sitting a while?

thanks for your responses but the wire was still connected when the engine was pulled and no oil in the bilge

If there was no visible oil in the bilge the only way a full gallon of oil went away in such a short period of time is really bad inner crank seals, it all went through the rotary cavity and into the crankcase(s) which is why it was smoking so bad.

You probably bent the rods and cracked the piston skirts with the kind of compression that would have been making in places compression doesn't belong on account of all that extra oil.

i have a 98 speedster engine that locks up due to oil getting in, the question is what is the fix? right now i deal with it by pulling the spark plugs and firing the starter to cough out the oil, then replace the plugs and it will turn over, but burns thick smoke for 30 seconds and run fine. dealership thought oil is getting around a seal but can't confirm without tearing engine apart. Is the engine on the outs? and if so, is it ok to keep doing this?

Next question- lately when running the engine out on the water i hear a popping or snapping noise in the engine compartment. couldn't isolate which engine. and the forward throttle cable seems to tighten on its own, i hear it click and see it tense up when the handle moves forward a little on its own. not sure if these issues are related?

Common issue,,, the crank seal is weak and allows oil to seep into the crankcase. When you turn the engine over, it sucks the oil into the cylinders. Easiest long-term-temp fix is to install a shut-off valve on the oil line from the tan to the engine. Turn it off when it is being stored and turn it on when you want to go riding....

thanks- any ideas on the loud snapping/popping noises coming out of the engine compartment at low to mid throttle? if I put it in neutral and let it sit for a minute, often the noise wont come back right away. happens sporadically.

last question i promise- engine compartment has been taking on alot of water last few times out (engines half submerged). i can't immediately tell where the water is coming from but noticed when I pull the boat out of the water a ton of water comes out the port side exhaust pipe. ive heard about a leaking gasket but not sure if that's the issue yet. Also, I can NOT tell if my bilge pump is working. Doesn't make a sound when i hit the switch. it's sitting in super oily water (due to oil issue mentioned above) so when I looked at it I wasn't sure how to tell if there was a problem. I will fill the bilge up with fresh water to check for leaks and see if the bilge pump does anything but i'm guessing not. so how do I go about troubleshooting if the bilge pump works? where does the fuse go that someone mentioned to try to replace? thank you!!

As far add the water leak, check the scupper valve. Also, check the line from the scupper they will break over time.
