96 speedster pump rebuild

I'm rebuilding the right pump on my 96 speedster. New bearings, wear ring, impeller shaft and anti rattle cone. I know I have to pressure test the new bearings on the rebuilt pump after adding the oil. I'm only changing oil and adding a no rattle cone to the left pump. Do you need to pressure test after an oil change in the left pump?

Yep, you should pressure check every time you do anything with the pump.

It's also good practice to ensure the seals are working correctly.

Don't forget your loctite 515/518, when you rebuild the bits and pieces.

I think the official way is with a pop off tester however I belive it is cheaper to make one with a bike pump and pressure gauge.

A quick search will probably find a build your own pop off tester thread.

Putting the pump back together tomorrow. How much play in the shaft against the thrust bearings should there be when the impeller is installed?

Well... I got the pumps rebuilt this morning and put the boat in the water this afternoon. The boat ran great!! It's a good feeling when you can do your own repairs. Thanks for all the help guys!!!
