hey ya'll, new to the forum and new to jet boating period. purchased this 96 speedster online because I figured it was a steal for $2k. It seems to run very well and it actually scared me a little at first (last boat was a pontoon) I'm wondering if I could find some general info or a link to a maintenance thread? ive been scanning the forum and noticed that I'm not supposed to get water in the boat when sitting in the water? I thought that was normal and in fact doesn't really bother me, but I'm wondering how to fix it. also what spark plugs are yall using, injection oil, ect...any and all info is much appreciated. I'm going to be creeping around the forum looking for info as well. thanks and if anyone boats on Brookville lake in Indiana id love to meet up!

as I read on I'm wondering how to tell if my oil tank has been blocked off? the guy who had it before me said it was working and I didn't have to mix but he only had it out twice. I'm reading that the tanks are left in for an oil bath on the shaft. how can I tell if my tank is hooked up or its set to premix and would it be wise to block it off?

Turns a little tighter than a pontoon huh? You basicly bought an over grown jet ski with a big gas tank. The oil lines are simple, 2 out the bottom of the tank, one to the oil pump one to the crankcase for the rotary gear on one side and one out the other side of the motor back to the top of the tank. Oil does not flow through the engine the top hose is a vent. The small oil lines going from the pump to the rotary cover are the ones that fail and burn up your motor, you should replace those now. There is a lever on the oil pump that adds more oil as you add throttle, replace the lines, take the plugs out and put the plug wires on their holders, hold the lever full open and hold the start button 10 sec at a time letting the starter cool down before you do it again until you see the lines fill up. This is not the only way to prime the oil lines. Premixing sucks I can't wait to fix my oil injection from the PO. Water can come from several places it's best to drain the boat and back the trailer in and start looking where it's coming from if you don't see any fire up the motor and look some more. Don't use outboard oil it's no good for these motors and you can't mix the oils they will gel up. The oil you want is rated api-tc. Tcw-3 is not it. Basic ngk plugs are what most of run. Keep an eye out for the group rides in the pwc section, I have been to a few and took my boat to one and carried gas cans around for the guys with smaller tanks and had a blast even in my 18ft challenger. Have fun and ask questions

As far as water getting in your boat, is it coming in at your feet? If so chances are your scupper cable. Reds to be replaced... I had to change mine on my 95 speedster... right now in currently in the process of rebuilding my carbs on both motors.. if you decide to do this at any point, by sure to use only mikuni rebuild kits... NOT anything else because all them knock offs are poor quality...

I forgot to mention you can check the operation of your oil pumps by holding said lever open and you will see alot of smoke from the exhaust pretty quickly and you need to rebuild the carbs with oem mikuni parts

Scupper valve is why you get water in the boat. I seem to constantly loose mine from jumping wakes. I just plug the hole by my feet unless it's raining or I take a wake over the bow.

thanks guys! can I buy the lines at the local hardware? also if I need to order them what exactly are they called?
and yes the water is coming in the washout hole, ill just block it off because sometimes its nice lol.
its nice to know I can replace these lines and feel confident in the injection system, whats oil is everyone using?

What I did was just take them off and ran up to hone depot to get the replacements. I got clear ones so I can see the oil better..

I thought you were talking about water in the bilge, I am scupperless too but I just hammer down and all the water runs out. I use the Seadoo xps oil, there is a mystic you can use, amsoil, klotz, and a few others just make sure it's api-tc rated and not outboard oil, If the oil in your tank is blue odds are it's tcw-3 and you need to flush the system out because the oils don't play nice together. The small oil lines are 3/32 and most of us use the weed eater fuel line from the hardware store, you should keep an eye on these lines and replace them any time they don't feel right

Westmarine or marine stores should have this scupper in stock, it is a standard part.

You can order it online cheaper. EBay or Amazon. Also, check you local dealers website, I know mine used to be more in the store vs online. I simply asked can i get the online price, "sure".

idk how yall are able to work on this. I'm 6ft 285, I cant see a way for my big ass to get in there lol. maybe unbolt the engine cover and work from the swim platform? idk

I have wondered if there is a better way myself. if anyone can suggest a better process then hanging upside down in the engine bay I would welcome any suggestions?

seems like a lot of work to replace two oil lines and filters. I'm scared to run this thing again until I verify its being properly oiled

Taking the hatch off is the way to go. I would keep running pre mix if I were you. I hooked up all my oil lines over a year ago and am still running pre mix because I don't think it's worth ruining 2 engines over!! In the winter I'm going to have a Seadoo mechanic be present when I switch over. I figure it's cheap insurance!

Yeah it sucks laying on the ole gut there and taking the engine cover off works pretty well just be careful not to break the inserts out of the fiberglass. One way I've read to do it is by pouring an oz or 2 of oil down each carb throat and start the motor and hold the lever open and watch the oil go through the lines. When I did it my PO had premix in the tank, I think it's less risky doing it with the starter because the engine won't get hot

as far as I know my injection system is working. but I don't see oil in any lines? hard to tell but it does seem to use the oil in the tank. I think I'm going to opt to take it to a shop for an inspection

Are you running pre mix bledt said? If you are then just stick new lines on it, fire it up hold that oil pump lever wide open and watch for oil to flow

at this point I don't know. I just bought it Saturday and the previous owner was a couple ton shy of a load. I cant see oil in any lines but I drove it for an hour when I got it and had no problems. he didn't say anything about premix but I don't even know if he drove the boat

It's up to you,but the easy/free way is to take the plugs out and put the wires on the post to ground them and have someone press the starter while you hold the oil pump lever wide open and watch the oil in the new lines move
