Hi Folks,
First off let me say this an awesome source of info and help in these forums. Three weeks ago I purchased a 96 speedster. Took it out for a test spin crawled all over it and felt it was well worth the money. So here is what I've fixed so far. Speedo with help of this forum, replaced my bilge pump, had the throttles matched up at the sea doo shop an hour from home. They did a Spring service as well, changed oil, adjusted oil injectors, jet oil, and checked clearances. They did a compression check and got 136 psi on both 717's. I'm having the nicks and scrapes fixed up in the gel coat this week.
My Hydro turf arrives next week. I'll redo the seat upholstery over the winter for something to do. So here are my questions. fuel gauge is fubar and I've done a resistance check on it and it shows open. So from reading posts here I understand that is typically a magnetic dropped off the float? Also the four hoses on top of the baffle, are they return lines? can I cut the original claps and replace them with stainless hose clamps? Does jb weld hold up in gasoline if I have to re assemble the float?
My biggest question relates to oil. Not sure what the previous owner put in it for oil but it may have been a low ash synthetic snow mobile 2 stroke oil. I bought a litre of sea doo xps mineral oil and added it the other day as my oil was below half. I purchased a gallon of the xps mineral oil today but want to know if I should flush the old out before putting the sea doo oil in???? Any info would be appreciated.
