96 speedster fuel gauge ohms

Looking to replace the fuel gauge in my 96 speedster with a non seadoo gauge. Anyone know what the ohm readings should be from empty to full?

Are you sure the gauge is bad? Usually the sender is on the fritz.

Resistance should be 0~90 I'd guess, but I never measured a 96 so don't know absolutely, I think they were all the same? Would be same as the ski for that year.

By touching the two sender pickup wires together, you can test the gauge, should go full scale. Toss a 50 Ohm resistor on there and should be ~1/2 scale.

Okay, sounds good. A 47 Ohm resistor BTW would have the first three color bands yellow violet black, then gold or silver as the +/- tolerance rating. I usually just touch the two wires together and if gauge goes full scale suspect the sender.

Sometimes the float can fall out of the bottom of the sender baffle tube, most/all also had a small chip fuse soldered to the circuit board and you will need to remove the baffle from the tank to replace it (using a jumper wire or solder bridge), there's a sticky on this site explaining how to repair the fuel pickup baffle sender.

Good luck! :)
